Ise katagami, stencil paper with patterns carved out for dyeing kimono designs,
once boasted a 99% market share in the past.

It has always walked hand in hand with the kimono industry.

However, as lifestyles have changed,
the demand for kimono has been declining since around the end of the Showa era.

We, who are involved in Ise katagami, must find our own way forward,
or I even fear that this craft will perish as it is.

Now, we are driven by a sense of mission that we must preserve this for the future,
and a sense of urgency that we ourselves must convey its excellence.

We hold an absolute policy when it comes to carrying forward Ise-katagami.
We draw a clear line between "what must not be changed" and "what should be incorporated."

What must not be changed
is that we never use machines to carve patterns on washi paper stencils.
This is also to protect the craftsmen who carve the stencils,
and we are determined never to change the essential aspects of Ise-katagami.

On the other hand, we do not hesitate to incorporate new motifs into our patterns.
Just as each era had its preferred patterns,
we constantly broaden our knowledge of new things
and strive to incorporate motifs that suit the present time.

The patterns that have supported the Japanese culture of kimono.
Ise katagami has continuously preserved patterns that reflect each era.
Unfortunately, opportunities to express these patterns in the world of kimono have diminished.
However, looking at daily life, there are fields where these patterns can be utilized in architecture, interior design, Western clothing, and miscellaneous goods.

We want to expand Ise katagami further into everyday life.
