Hagi-yaki pottery that grows with use
Hagi pottery has a deep connection with the tea ceremony due to its history,
and it inevitably evokes a strong image of tea bowls.
I want to create vessels that our generation
can use more casually.
Focusing on vessels for everyday use.
Some people who use Hagi pottery for the first time
are surprised to find "cracks" in it.
This is a characteristic of Hagi pottery called "crazing,"
a pattern that forms as the pottery cools after firing
due to the different shrinkage rates of the clay and glaze.
Over years of use,
tea and other liquids seep into the
"crazing," causing the color to change,
which can be enjoyed as a charming characteristic.
On the other hand, by allowing the vessel
to absorb water or hot water for even 10 minutes
before use, "crazing" becomes less likely to occur.
In Hagi, people have long used
the word "nurture" when speaking of pottery.
"Nurture the vessel" "A vessel to be nurtured through use".
How it develops depends entirely
on the preferences of the person who holds it.
We hope you will nurture and use
the Hagi pottery that you have
encountered through fate,
allowing it to become a vessel
that suits your taste
in your daily life.
