This product is currently experiencing high demand. Please allow approximately 3 months for shipping after placing your order and completing payment.

Palm fibers are fine, resilient, and flexible.
Palm brooms, which utilize these characteristics, capture dust and dirt without stirring them up into the air.
They are suitable for tatami mats, flooring, and even corners of rooms and stairs that vacuum cleaners cannot reach.

Skin brooms are made by bundling palm bark stripped from palm trees and loosening the bristle tips.

New skin brooms, despite removal during the manufacturing process, inevitably shed palm powder due to their structure. Before using a new skin broom, please brush the bristle tips by hand outdoors or over newspaper to remove the powder before use. This will gradually settle with continued use.

What is palm?

This is a plant of the palm family, a dioecious evergreen tree. The trunk stands upright and can reach up to approximately 10 meters in height. The base of the long petiole forms a large leaf sheath, and the fibers that wrap around the trunk at the base of the leaf sheath become various palm products.

Characteristics of palm products

The fibers of palm bark are strong and possess excellent water resistance and corrosion resistance, which is why they have been used since ancient times for ropes, brooms, and scrubbing brushes. Palm rope is used for assembling bamboo fences and has a wide range of applications, including the cultivation of Sanriku wakame seaweed.

A palm broom with added originality

Based on the historical method of broom-making, our artisans handcraft each piece individually, incorporating our own unique manufacturing techniques that we have newly developed. By braiding palm fiber in a three-strand pattern instead of using copper wire at the shoulder section, we achieve enhanced design aesthetics while maintaining sufficient strength.

palm broom

Kainan City in Wakayama Prefecture is Japan's largest production area for household goods, with its origins tracing back to the palm fiber industry that flourished from the Meiji era onwards. Palm fibers are fine, elastic, and flexible. Palm brooms that utilize these characteristics effectively capture dust and dirt without causing them to scatter into the air. They are suitable not only for tatami mats and flooring but also for corners of rooms and staircases that vacuum cleaners cannot reach.
